Frequently Asked Questions

ST3 FAQ

General Questions

What is the date of the event? Race day is June 26-28, 2026

What is the exact location of the event? The entire event will take place in Fernie, BC, Canada.

What distances are available? In TransRockies fashion, we will offer both a Full Pint distance and a Half Pint distance for riders to choose from. Please note: all riding distances are approximate. We have done our best to ensure that each distance is accurate but based on the routes chosen, it is sometimes difficult to be exact. We know how you hate to be short-changed!

Where should I park for the event? As Fernie is a small town with limited parking, we recommend riding to the start line each stage from your accommodations. As the event gets closer, we will update participants with additional parking options if they present themselves.

What about smoky conditions? Smoke from fires either nearby or distant may also impact the event and conditions can be variable from location to location. In the case that wildfire smoke is present, we will use the Canadian AQHI rating from the closest reliable source to measure air quality. If the AQHI is 7 or higher at the time of the start the stage will be cancelled. If the AQHI is less than 7 but higher than 4 the race director may modify the stage by neutralizing or shortening it in the interest of rider safety.

Course Info

Are the trails/roads closed for the event? NO! All trails/roads are always open to traffic. All cyclists will be required to share the trails with the public and/or ride on the far-right hand side of the road – on the shoulder if applicable – alongside traffic

Where can I find the route descriptions, profiles & GPX files? You can find full/detailed descriptions of each distance along with downloadable GPX files on our website under “The Course” tab (on the left side of the menu bar)

What sort of bike should I use for the event? An XC or Trail mountain bike would be your best option for this event. The courses will offer some challenging climbs, as well as descents - all of which can be handled on this type of bike.

Do I need any mandatory gear? We don’t have any dedicated mandatory gear for this event; however, we recommend having a spare tube and basic tools with you in case anything happens while out on course. We do not have mechanics on course so being able to do minor fixes yourself is important.

If I didn’t buy the Tech Package, can I still get service from the mechanics? Yes, you can use our mechanics even if you didn’t buy the tech package, however, please note that timing for service would depend on how many people have bought the package (as this gives them priority service). We will be locations that will have local bike shops as well in case our mechanics become too busy.

Where are the aid stations located for each distance? The check points/aid stations are usually no more than 15 km apart. Each stage will usually have 2 check points. Half pint routes may have one checkpoint on shorter days. Please note that this can vary depending on the access points for the vehicles to get all materials to the check point. Check points/aid station locations will be listed on the course maps.

What’s available at the aid stations? Our aid stations are fully stocked with Exact nutrition chews, F2C electrolytes, water, chips, fruit, M&M’s, candy, cookies, and much more!

What if I am not feeling up to the distance I registered for while out there? No problem, simply come to the timing tent immediately after you cross the finish line and give your name and they can make the change for you, so that you are in the correct results.

Are there cut off times? Yes, you can find cut off times for each stage on our Schedule of Events page here. Just scroll to the day/stage you’re looking for, and it will be listed there. These will be updated as the routes are finalized.
